Legislative Update on the Federal Bird-Safe Buildings Act
Join us Tuesday, March 1, 2016 (10:30 AM - 11:30 AM ET)
In May 2015, U.S. Representatives Mike Quigley (IL-05)
and Morgan Griffith (VA-09) introduced the Federal Bird-Safe Buildings Act
(H.R. 2280) to help prevent millions of bird deaths by requiring federal
buildings to use bird-safe building materials and design features. In addition to the ecological benefits,
economic analyses associated with this bill indicate that birding generates
approximately $4.4 billion in federal tax revenues and $6.2 billion in state
tax revenues each year, and supports 670,000 jobs which generate $38 billion in
employment income. During the webinar,
Representative Quigley, Dr. Christine Sheppard (American Bird Conservancy), and
Mr. Brian Moore (National Audubon Society) will explain this proposed
bipartisan legislation, discuss its anticipated impacts, and consider existing
solutions to address the issue of bird collisions with buildings.
