Check out this link to NASA’s Earth Observatory showing an image
of Lake Thurmond in South Carolina/Georgia indicating the extent of Hydrilla in
the lake. Researchers at the University of Georgia (UGA) developed a way
to model the spread of hydrilla in the lake using a combination of Landsat 8
remote images, ground measurement/observation and modeling.
There is also a brief discussion of the impact on waterfowl and
the bald eagle from ingesting cyanobacteria that live on the hydrilla. We
had a presentation on this by Brigette Haram from UGA at our 2014 annual
meeting.
