Innovations in Invasive Species Management Training

December 4th and 5th 2024

We invite you to join us for the sixth annual Innovations in Invasive Species Management Training to be held in Nashville, TN December 4th and 5th, 2024 at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel.  Registration and discounted room blocks are now available at the conference website www.invasivesfree.org. This year’s meeting will be co-hosted by the National Military Fish and Wildlife Association’s Invasive Species Working Group the Tennessee Invasive Plant Council  and Invasive Plant Control, Inc.    

 Listen to speakers from around the world discuss their innovative techniques for managing invasive species.  Speakers include:

  • Giovani Polverino, Assistant Professor at The University of Tuscia (Italy) Research Fellow at Monash University (Australia) & University of Western Australia discussing Bioinspired robotic predators to control an invasive fish species 
  • Jonas Schoelynck, ECOSPHERE Research Group, University of Antwerp, Belgium presenting on the Invasion of the Chinese mitten crab: how bad is it and what can be done to stop them? 
  • Bernd Blossey, Professor, Department of Natural Resources and the Environment, Cornell University will present "Looking forward by looking back: improving success in invasive species management"
  • Dan Tompkins, Project Manager: Science Strategy, Predator Free 2050 will update us on New tools for invasive mammal eradication 
  • Nini van der Merwe, Director - Intrepid Solutions will present  "We need to talk about Failure: Gough Island, a case study"
  • Dr. Colin Lawton, Head of Zoology, School of Natural Sciences, University of Galway, Ireland will present "Game of Cones – grey squirrels and other invasive mammal species in Ireland"
  • Nicole Olmstead, Planning and Conservation Manager, Navy Region Hawaii will update us on "Invasive Species- the Rise of the Octocoral"
  • Richard Hall, Director - Intrepid Solutions South Georgia Island will be presenting  "The Greatest Success: The world’s largest rodent eradication"

Day two will be filled with indoor and outdoor equipment demonstrations and presentations on invasive plant species.
